PARISH LIFE

Saint Luke's is brimming with energy for worship, prayer, education, fellowship, service, and care.  With opportunities to draw nearer to God by learning, in serving on Sunday mornings, or entering into one of our in-house ministries, you'll never find yourself without something to do!

ADULT EDUCATION

Every Sunday morning at 9:00, between worship services, the Adult Bible Study meets. this group engages with good questions about scripture and context without judgment.

CHILDREN'S EDUCATION

As the 10:00 Sunday morning service gets started, the children of St. Luke's gather in Jubilee Hall to focus on their own faith formation. Led by a wonderful team of volunteers, the children engage with scripture and form good theological questions. These questions are then brought back into the worship service and presented to the priest in front of the congregation.

BOOK STUDIES

Buffalo Bible Questions

On occasion, Saint Luke's offers a seasonal Book Study.  This Advent we are focusing on An Unlikely Advent by Rachel Billups.  Please join us for a discussion following coffee hour each Sunday in Advent.

We engage in a weekly Zoom discussion group called BBQ (Buffalo Bible Questions) on Wednesdays at 6:00pm.  This is a place where you can be fed and which might even get a little messy as we look at how faith and the Bible can inform our lives today.  JOIN US!!

Worship Leadership Opportunities

ALTAR ICON

ALTAR GUILD

The Altar Guild is a group of people who tend to the altar.  Preparation before worship and cleanup afterward are the primary tasks of this group. This work is holy in itself, as much of the work is for the care of the holy sacraments of bread and wine.

USHER ICON

USHERS

The ushers aim to make the movement of worship easy to understand. The ushers greet those who come in for worship, offering a bulletin. They direct traffic when it is time for communion and take care of cleaning up the pews after the service has ended.

ACOLYTE ICON

READERS AND ACOLYTES

Readers ensure that the Word of God is delivered clearly to the congregation. This includes the two reading from each testament and leading the psalm. Acolytes assist the priest and deacon at the altar and lead the processionals at the beginning and end of the service.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

CARING HANDS

When it comes to receptions, potluck lunches, catered dinners, or any other food and hospitality-related special events, Caring Hands has it covered.  This group stays connected and ready to serve however the church needs.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The prayer shawl ministry provides a supply of shawls, lap blankets, and pocket squares that have been blessed for distribution to friends and family in need of the comfort of a hand knit/crochet item.

We are always looking to maintain our supply.  There is a supply of donated yarn at the church if you would like to assist us in creating items to share with others.  Contact Monica in the office for further information.

PRAYER GROUP

Saint Luke's prayer group meets every Monday morning at 9:00.  Together, they pray for the state of the world and any specific needs, the state of the parish, and for one another in their own needs.  All are welcome around the table to share in petition and thanksgiving.

Ministries

Meals for the Soul meals.jpg

Meals for the Soul

When widowed members of the congregation approached a former chef and requested that she teach them to cook for one, a new ministry began to take shape.  With support from the clergy and Vestry, a group of volunteers began cooking and packaging single-serving meals for anyone who needs one or two plates to supplement their weekly food needs.  They now serve dozens of portions for a small donation, or free.

Meals for the Soul meets in the parish kitchen the first Wednesday of the month at noon to cook meals which can be picked up as needed from the fridge freezer in Onderdonk Hall.  See the parish calendar for the upcoming dates.

Be in touch with Monica in the office if you would like to volunteer to help prepare meals.

YOU'D LIKE TO HELP?

Wonderful!  We are always looking for more hands.  To get involved in any of our parish ministries, please call the church office.  Your interest will be passed on to ministry leaders who will reach out to welcome you into your new desired ministry!
